Milford Opportunities Project

2024

November 1, 2024

Client: Department of Conservation

MartinJenkins was brought in as lead adviser to bolster the Milford Opportunities Project, an initiative aimed at reimagining tourism strategies for Piopiotahi and the Milford Road corridor. Funded by the government and overseen by key ministers and Ngāi Tahu, the project seeks to transform current limitations and develop a self-sustaining, regenerative tourism model.

We were initially engaged for policy support, but our involvement has expanded due to our team's success. Under a single-source arrangement, we've provided a comprehensive suite of services, spanning policy analysis, commercial strategy, business case development, stakeholder engagement, and data visualisation.

Our work delved into the intricate policy and legal ramifications of achieving a world-class visitor experience in Milford, while also considering conservation and marine environmental concerns. We've devised commercial and funding models to underpin this vision and proposed novel governance and management structures to ensure that the vision is implemented effectively.
