Jennie is a highly regarded policy and regulatory professional. She brings both on-the-tools experience and the ability to lead and manage.

Jennie is well-known to many in government for her sound advice and her ability to thrive in difficult, fast-paced settings. She’s adept at working with ministers and select committees and putting government priorities into effect.

Jennie has extensive experience in policy, regulation, and strategy, having worked across several public-policy areas, including economic development, COVID-19 response, competition, consumer protection, financial markets, infrastructure, defence, and emergency management.

Examples of Jennie's work

  • Legislative reform – Jennie has worked on several major reforms from design through to implementation, such as the Inspector-General of Defence Act, COVID-19 Orders, and amendments to the Commerce Act
  • Policy leader and manager – During the COVID-19 pandemic she was a manager in the strategic policy unit in the National Crisis Management Centre and she subsequently established and led a policy team in MIQ; earlier she led the Competition and Consumer policy team at MBIE from 2016 to 2020
  • Regulatory systems – Jennie reviewed the regulatory responses to recent emergencies for the Treasury, undertook a rapid review of the regulatory allocation process for permits to the Subantarctic islands for DOC, worked with the Ministry of Health on the organisational design for an expanded medical-products regulator, and supported a regulatory review for the Ministry of Defence.
