Kevin specialises in strategy, organisational performance and design, and in leading major strategy and change initiatives.
Kevin founded MartinJenkins with Doug Martin in 1993. Before that he worked for the State Services Commission for 10 years, including being involved in the establishment of the first wave of State Owned Enterprises, the implementation of the State Sector Act and reforms of employment legislation, and major reforms of the health sector.
Kevin has undertaken a wide range of assignments in the science and innovation, economic development, and tertiary education sectors – for example, work on the establishment of Callaghan Innovation (New Zealand’s advanced technology institute). He has worked a lot in the justice sector, including leading a major programme targeted at leveling off the increase in the prison muster, and another at ensuring that the cost of the sector is stabilised.
Other major assignments have been:
- leading a review of the land transport sector
- leading the response to the “leaky buildings” crisis in the early 2000s
- leading reviews of the strategy and design of numerous sectors and organisations such as the merger of the Department of Internal Affairs, the National Library and Archives NZ, and the structure of the Law Commission.
